8) The boy healed

“Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute. And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.” (verses 17-18)

1. A lack of faith

“O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.” (verse 19)

But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” (v. 22)

And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” (verse 23)

For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

Then who can be saved?” (Luke 18:26)

"What is impossible with man is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)

And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.  Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. (Mark 11:22-23)

who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,   (Eph 3:20)

Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” (verse 24)

And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. (vs. 25-27)

2. A lack of prayer

And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” (verse 28)

And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them. (Mk 6:12-13)

And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”  (verse 29)

“Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” (John 11:41-42)

Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)
