3) Behold, your son

John 19:17-27           

“Woman, behold your son” “Behold, your mother” John 19:26-27

It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” John 19:19

Many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in  Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek. John 19:20

When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfil the Scripture which says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” John 19:23-24

but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother John 19:25

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, Luke 1:46-47

“Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed  (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.” Luke 2:34-35

For not even his brothers believed in him. John 7:5

“Woman, behold, your son!” John 19:26

“Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Ephesians 6:1-3

And they all left him and fled.  Mark 14:50

And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. John 19:27

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,  which God prepared beforehand,  that we should walk in them.  Ephesians 2:10
