3) Smyrna - Rev 2:8-11

To the Church at Smyrna write …

Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.   (verse 10)

1. The Greeting

‘The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life. (v. 8)

“Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.  (Rev 1:17-18)

For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.  (2 Cor 2:15-16)

2. The Content

“‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. (verse 9)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,  (Eph 1:3)

Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.   (verse 10)

the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. (verse 9)

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:6-7)

and for ten days you will have tribulation. (verse 10)

Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. (2 Tim 4:8)

3. The Conclusion

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death. (v. 11)

so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.  (Hebrews 9:28)
