10) Clothes Worn - Revelation 3:7-22

Clothes for the Christians

1. No clothes – v. 17

For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. (v. 17)

Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. (Gen 3:7)

“But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. (Matt 22:11) 

2. White clothes – v. 18

I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. (verse 18)

a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, (Rev 7:9)

“These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (Rev 7:14)

The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments,  and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. (Rev 3:5)

3. Soiled clothes – v. 4

Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. (verse 4)

By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? (Rom 6:2)

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: (1 Thess 4:3)

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.  (1 John 2:1)
